OverviewThe Institute for Nonprofit Innovation and Excellence (INIE) works to enhance the capacity and leadership of the nonprofit industry through advocacy, education, and engagement. INIE’s Nonprofit Management Volunteer Internship Program provides participants with an unparalleled opportunity to acquire administrative experience while gaining valuable insight into the nonprofit sector. Interns will contribute to their own success by selecting a focal area for their internship at the outset (e.g., Marketing, Research, Event Planning, Community Engagement, Membership, Development) and will then work with their Supervisor to develop projects upon which much of their time will be focused. Additionally, all interns will participate in INIE staff meetings and will be engaged in the day-to-day operations of the agency, allowing for enormous personal and professional growth. DepartmentsData and Customer Service Intern: A Data and Customer Service intern would focus on database upkeep, including updates to custom profile information, creation of forms vital to membership success, management of all forms-based services, and would perform routine maintenance of prospect records as well as the job board, open board seats postings, and membership directory. They would also be responsible for using database reports to create and distribute monthly form letters for membership mailings, performing membership outreach calls as needed, and identifying target audiences for event invitations. Marketing: A Marketing intern would focus on building awareness of our organization and the services we provide to the Tallahassee community through various media channels such as social media, direct emailing, and newsletters. They would also be challenged to ideate and fulfill marketing strategies for organizational projects and events in efforts to increase member engagement. Revenue Research: A Revenue Research intern would be responsible for locating funding opportunities for INIE members and tracking the data relating to the research they’ve done. They are also challenged to locate and provide access to resources for Nonprofits to aid the process of finding opportunities for funding through community outreach. Special Events: A Special Events intern is responsible for coordinating and managing INIE events. This includes scheduling and confirming locations and facilitators, developing event themes and activities to be executed, publicizing events on social media and public calendars, and capturing and inputting pertinent event data like evaluation scores, number of attendees, and total revenue. Membership Sales A Sales Intern will be supporting the Membership Director in all prospecting strategies with an overarching goal of increasing the number of memberships purchased throughout the fiscal year. Experience will include the development of a prospect acquisition plan, making cold calls to potential clients, and following a digital marketing and engagement strategy. Qualifications
Hours and DaysA minimum of four months or 160 hours commitment is required. During that time, Interns are expected to work between 12-40 hours per week based on internship requirements on projects at the INIE office during normal office hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday) with occasional evening event participation. BenefitsInternships with the Institute for Nonprofit Innovation and Excellence are not paid but offer valuable hands-on experience. INIE’s Nonprofit Management Volunteer Internship will provide applicants with a strong background in areas required for success in any organization. Course credit may apply based on the student's degree and course credit requirements. Upon successful completion of the internship, the student will receive a letter of recommendation.
